Sewage Waste
- Waste (WS)
[3.6] Sewage Disposal
Description:
Mersin University Campus is located within the Mersin Water and Sewerage Administration (MESKI) sewerage network. Mersin Metropolitan Municipality General Directorate is obliged to take all necessary precautions for the protection of the environment, and establish and operate pretreatment and/or treatment facilities according to this Regulation within the scope of the “Regulation on Discharge of Wastewater to Sewerage Network”.
MESKI envisages and obliges businesses to establish the necessary treatment facilities in order to protect the water resources used by the city and not to pollute other water resources (sea, lake, river and groundwater) with wastewater and industrial wastes. In addition, all industries/businesses are obliged to operate these facilities and to reduce and provide treatment plant effluent values to MESKI acceptance standards.
In this context, MESKİ serves to the areas including Mersin University Campus area by treating wastewater coming from campus with Karaduvar Wastewater Treatment Plant. Within the scope of the Water Pollution Control Regulation, connecting to the system in regions with a sewage system is a “right and obligation” principle.
Within the framework of the above-mentioned principle, our university campus also receives this service. This shows that wastewater produced on campus is disposed by purifying and providing clean water discharge standards.
